Tuesday's hearings in Harrisburg regarding the privatization of the state PA wine and spirits stores took an interesting turn, and not for the better.
The testifiers ignored the economic benefits and the fact that the majority of other states have the same rules when claiming that "...access to alcohol in general – who blasted the bill as a gateway to increasing a host of social ills, including increases in child abuse, teen pregnancies, car crashes, mental problems and alcohol abuse."
As philly.com reported "Others talked about the costs of more emergency room visits, higher divorce rates, more poverty, higher unemployment, more crime and children born out of wedlock."
Deb Beck, president of the Drug and Alcohol Service Providers Organization of Pennsylvania, which works with individuals struggling with substance and alcohol abuse. “If you increase access to a desired substance, you’re going to increase consumption. If you increase consumption, you’re going to increase alcohol-created problems.”
In conclusion having the choice between two private stores, based on inventory or cost, will cause you to lose your job and leave your spouse.
Who knew choosing between Bordeaux or Napa Cabernet in a private store could cause such ills.
