As a business traveler getting time to sit down and enjoy a bottle of wine can be a challenge. Last Night I went to the wine store to share a bottle of wine in the hotel lobby with some colleagues. Due to the time of night most wine stores were closed so my selection was limited to what Safeway Supermarket offered. I settled on the 2009 Gary Farrell Russian River Valley Pinot Noir ($44).
The Pinot is in the fruit forward California style. The front palate has notes of strawberry and ripe raspberry with a big mouth feel. The wine holds strong through the mid palate and the finish displays subtle secondary tobacco notes.
Recommendation - A good social wine to share that does not require focus to understand its nuances. Low QPR ratio yet one of the better wines you will find in a supermarket- which is a foreign concept to my local PA residents.
